I picked up one other pair of Gel Saga in a collab this year, but wanted another colorway on the model. The Size? x Asics Gel Saga Balloon Fiesta are a tripped-out version of the Saga and another dope collab.
The Gel Saga gets its name from the Saga prefecture in Japan, and one of their traditions is a balloon festival, hence the inspiration for the shoe. The only extras on the shoe are a special graphic on the insole and some spare black laces.
Given the mostly black upper and the dark tones of blue and red used, a black outfit can look great with these! Also dark wash denim can work. Light denim could also work if paired with a black top. Overall though I’d stick to darker colors with these for the easiest outfit.
While disappointed in the suede quality, I really love the colorway inspiration and how they worked it into a shoe. I think if super unique kicks are your thing, this is definitely a collab to grab!
How Are The Materials?
The materials are kind of a mixed bag. The color print part is this nylon type material, and is fairly good. The smooth leather is also decent on the Asics stripes on the side. The major downfall is the suede quality. It is definitely sub par and very rough to the touch. I think if you are into materials but want these, you’ll have to look past the suede here and buy based on the look of the shoe only.
How Do They Fit?
The Size? x Asics Gel Saga Balloon Fiesta fit true to your Asics size, which for me is a half size down from Nike. They’re very comfortable for me and sport a nice pointy shape out of the box.
